That means our customers own us, and we make decisions in their best interests. Because we don’t issue stock, we’re not pressured by Wall Street to make short-term decisions that might not benefit our policyholders in the long term.

Financially, we’re extremely secure. We ended 2006 with $15.5 billion in assets, $4.9 billion in equity and $6.8 billion in revenue. When catastrophes or accidents occur, those dollars help take care of our customers and pay their claims. They also help us invest in ourselves so we can grow.

And grow we have. We opened in 1927 as Farmers Mutual Insurance Company with three employees and 346 policyholders. Now, we’re American Family Insurance and have more than 8,200 employees, approximately 4,000 agents and more than 9 million policies in force. We’re not done either.
