Auto Premium Relief
While the world may have changed, one thing has not: our support, belief and commitment to doing everything we can to inspire and protect your dreams and all the things you’ve worked hard to achieve.
To support our customers through the changes and challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, we plan to return a total of $500 million in premium relief for personal auto insurance customers.
Auto Premium Relief Credit — Now Extended into March 2021
American Family plans to return 10% of personal auto premium to both new and existing customers through our Auto Premium Relief Credit. Eligible customers will receive a 10% credit on personal auto premiums for personal auto policies in force between July 2020 and March 2021.*

Auto Premium Relief Payment
The Auto Premium Relief Payment was a one-time $50.00 payment for each personal automobile insured with American Family. This relief payment was issued in April 2020 to customers with eligible auto policies that were in force as of March 11, 2020.

Anyone who has in place, or purchases, an American Family personal auto policy now through March 2021 will be eligible for the 10% premium credit for whatever months they have coverage, beginning July 1, 2020 and ending March 31, 2021.* The Auto Premium Relief Credit only applies to personal auto policies issued by American Family Mutual Insurance Company, S.I., American Family Insurance Company, American Standard Insurance Company of Wisconsin and American Standard Insurance Company of Ohio.

Private passenger vehicles insured with American Family are eligible for the Auto Premium Relief Credit.* This includes cars, vans, pick-ups, SUVs, personal trailers, antique/classic cars and farm trucks. . The Auto Premium Relief Credit only applies to personal auto policies issued by American Family Mutual Insurance Company, S.I., American Family Insurance Company, American Standard Insurance Company of Wisconsin and American Standard Insurance Company of Ohio.
Please note that campers, motorhomes, motorcycles and other cycles, tractors, farm machinery and low-speed golf carts are not eligible. In addition, premiums for commercial auto policies are not eligible.

You do not need to take any action to receive the 10% Auto Premium Relief Credit on your qualifying premium payments. American Family will automatically provide this credit to all eligible customers.*
Customers who recently purchased personal auto insurance with American Family will see the first Auto Premium Relief Credit issued within 60 days of their policy issuance date. For example, a new customer purchasing a personal auto policy in December would get the relief credit for the first three months of 2021, and whatever pro-rated portion of December they were insured for. For these customers, final Auto Premium Relief Credit for March 2021 will appear on bills in April and May 2021 to account for the initial 60 days mentioned previously.
American Family customers who have existing personal auto policies will receive the Auto Premium Relief Credit on their monthly billing statements for each month their personal auto policy is in force between July 1, 2020 and March 31, 2021, so long as they maintain continuous coverage and do not cancel their policy. Credit will be issued during the term of July 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021.
You can see the Auto Premium Relief Credit on eligible premium payments by referencing your billing statement, signing into My Account or logging into the MyAmFam app.
Please note that the Auto Premium Relief Credit does not apply to past-due balances that are billed during this time period. The relief credit only applies to the policy premium for coverage during the July 2020 to March 2021 period. In addition, any policy changes (such as a new or removed vehicle) may affect the Auto Premium Relief Credit amount.

American Family is providing the Auto Premium Relief Credit using a percentage-of-premium formula (10%) that is applied the same way to all eligible customers. The credit is applied as the final step in establishing the premium payment due, after all other discounts have been applied. The credit does not affect any of your policy discounts.

Customers will only receive the Auto Premium Relief Credit for the period their personal auto policy is in force between July 1, 2020 and March 31, 2021.* Changing or cancelling your policy between July 2020 and March 2021 may affect your Auto Premium Relief Credit.

The Auto Premium Relief Credit is a 10% credit applied to the premium for active personal auto policies between July 1, 2020 and March 31, 2021. In effect, the premium relief credit lowers the amount customers pay on their premium for coverage for July 2020 through March 2021.*

Because of these factors, we are returning premium to them. Our customers are truly at the center of everything we do.

Customers who had a private passenger automobile policy in force as of March 11, 2020, the date the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic, will receive a payment. Classic and Advance policies are both eligible.

The Premium Relief Payment will automatically be sent to all eligible customers after receipt of regulatory approval from their state. No application is required.

Because you are a customer who had a personal auto policy with American Family as of March 11, 2020, the date the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic. Because our customers are driving less and having fewer claims, we are returning premium to you.

It will be a paper check that is issued and mailed to the address of the named insured on the policy.

Any Family Car schedule vehicles, including Medium/Heavy trucks, are eligible. Both owned and leased vehicles in this schedule qualify.
Vehicles that are not eligible are: Cycles, Campers, Personal Trailers, Motor Homes, or Specialty Vehicles (golf carts, mini-trucks, personal mobility device, snowmobile, tractors/farm machinery). Non-owners’ policies, such as SR22s, are not eligible.

No. Because this is based on a decrease in claims due to the majority of customers currently driving less, the funds are not connected to rates and will not result in a rate increase.

No, it would not be considered a taxable event for the customer, as long as the amount the customer receives does not exceed the amount the customer has paid in premium during the calendar year (not the 6-month policy term).

We are not experiencing reduced mileage driven for commercial auto policies. In fact, we anticipate an increase in commercial auto use for food and service deliveries, maintaining or even increasing exposure. While the COVID-19 pandemic has reduced personal usage of vehicles, essential businesses need to maintain stock and supply so deliveries continue to occur at a reasonably equivalent pace as pre-COVID-19.
The Auto Premium Relief Credit is based on qualifying American Family Insurance personal auto policies in force July 1, 2020 through March 31, 2021 and is subject to regulatory approval in each state. Vehicles eligible for the Auto Premium Relief Credit include cars, vans, pick-ups, SUVs, personal trailers, antique/classic cars and farm trucks. Some exclusions apply.
